Rochester City Council approves 200-plus housing units at The Ridge: What happens next

Hundreds of potential residential units got the green light Tuesday when the City Council approved a necessary zoning change for the second phase of The Ridge development.

The council approved the zoning change on a 10-3 vote, but it did not come easy. It took several council meetings with a lot of questions from residents and the council about the impacts of adding residential to The Ridge, on things such as the schools, police, fire and other city services.

No specific plans have been released yet for what will ultimately end up at The Ridge. Conceptual plans called for mixed use commercial/residential buildings, with about 214 studio apartments as well and one- and two-bedroom units on property adjacent to the Ridge shopping plaza.
