Rochester moves to replace a councilor and a mayor

There is some turnover in city government, with two vacancies in elected positions to fill.

The City Council will fill one vacant council seat, and the mayor is retiring in June. The Ward 1 council seat was vacated by the resignation of councilor Doug LaChance, who resigned in April following allegations of sexual abuse for which he is under investigation by the county attorney.

Mayor Caroline McCarley announced she will retire from her position after a long tenure of working in various city government roles. When McCarley retires, Deputy Mayor Elaine Lauterborn of Ward 2 will assume the seat until the next election in November, according to City Manager Blaine Cox.
