A beloved East Rochester tradition will return later this week, much to the delight of generations of Eastsiders who have used the field next to Nancy Loud School like their back yard.
The Rochester Recreation and Water departments have been flooding the field the past two weeks in order to turn it into an outdoor skating rink for the first time in many years. They anticipate the rink will be ready by the end of the week.
“It’s such a great feeling that they’re flooding it again so my kids can enjoy it,” said Cindy Lamie, one of the Eastside natives who have had a hand in the revival. “Growing up in this area, this was our hangout. We would always gather at the picnic table in the summertime, then in the wintertime, we were all on the ice.”
