‘Wonderful legacy’: Rochester community center named for slain journalist James Foley

Diane Foley, mother of slain journalist James Foley, said she is moved by the decision to rename the city’s Community Center to honor her son.

“This is such a kind gesture and we are really very honored,” she said. “Jim was always about gathering and bringing people together. Kids and community needs always meant a lot to him, and he was a teacher, a coach and a mentor before he became a journalist. This is a wonderful legacy, a way for him to live on through the wonderful work done at the center. This community center is the heart of Rochester and he can continue to inspire people.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center at 150 Wakefield St. was held Tuesday. Comments were made by Diane Foley, and by Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley.
