Everclear, one of the leading alternative rock bands to emerge from the ’90s, is set to perform at the Rochester Opera House on August 10, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM.
Everclear celebrated their 30th anniversary in recent years. Founder, vocalist, and guitarist Art Alexakis has made it clear that he has no plans to slow down. Since forming in 1992, Everclear has built a remarkable career spanning 11 studio albums—four of which have been certified Gold or Platinum—selling over six million records, and landing 12 Top 40 hit singles across Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio. Notable tracks include “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” “Wonderful,” and “Everything to Everyone.” The band has also released numerous music videos, performed thousands of shows, and earned various accolades, including a Grammy nomination in 1998.
Following the breakup of his previous band, Colorfinger, in 1992, Alexakis moved from San Francisco to Portland, where he faced personal and creative challenges. That difficult period became the crucible for the raw, emotional songwriting that defined Everclear’s early sound. The band’s debut EP, Nervous & Weird (1993), and their first LP, World of Noise, were released on the Portland independent label Tim/Kerr Records. The original 1993 release of World of Noise, coupled with the band’s grassroots efforts to gain traction on college radio and within the local music scene, attracted the attention of major labels. Capitol Records ultimately signed Everclear, and their 1995 major-label debut, Sparkle and Fade, featuring the breakout hit “Santa Monica,” propelled the band into mainstream success.
In 2019, while being treated for injuries sustained in a minor car accident, Alexakis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS)—a condition he likely had been living with unknowingly for nearly two decades. Since his diagnosis, he has donated one dollar from every concert ticket sold to charities such as the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and the National MS Society.
To commemorate their 30th anniversary in 2022, Everclear reissued World of Noise as a remastered deluxe edition, making it available on digital streaming platforms for the first time. This special edition included six bonus tracks in addition to the original twelve. That same year, the band released a retrospective video titled Everclear – 30 Years Gone: A Retrospective, hosted by former MTV VJ and longtime friend Matt Pinfield. They also embarked on an extensive North American tour. One highlight of the tour was a special hometown performance in Los Angeles, recorded and filmed for their live album, Live at The Whisky a Go Go. Released via Sunset Blvd. Records, the album features hits and hidden gems from the band’s catalog, along with two brand-new studio tracks.
Beyond his work with Everclear, Alexakis also founded and curates the annual Summerland Tour, which features a lineup of popular ’90s alternative rock bands. In 2019, he released his first solo album, Sun Songs. More than three decades since their formation, Everclear continues to be a powerful force on stage, with an enduring legacy and a loyal fan base that keeps growing.
