City of Rochester to Hold Informational Session Regarding Union St. Parking Lot Upgrade on 6/9

On Monday, June 9, 2025, the Department of Economic Development will host an informational session about the refurbishment and upgrade of the municipal parking lot on Union Street. The event is intended for downtown business owners, managers, and residents who use the lot.

According to Economic Development Director Michael Scala, the session will provide details about the construction process and timeline, including a presentation by SUR Construction. Municipal staff will also be available to answer questions and address concerns.

The project, budgeted at $1.75 million, aims to improve both functionality and environmental sustainability. The lot’s capacity will increase slightly from 97 to 99 spaces and will include handicapped-accessible and electric vehicle charging spots, as well as a consolidated dumpster corral for nearby businesses and residents.

Significant environmental upgrades include bioretention basins, tree filter boxes, and a closed drainage system designed to manage stormwater runoff and protect the nearby Cocheco River.

The informational session will take place at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers at Rochester City Hall, 31 Wakefield Street.
