The Friends of the Rochester Public Library are pleased to announce the first New Hampshire Humanities event of 2021, Comics in World History and Cultures. This event will be presented virtually due to public health concerns.
Marek Bennett presents a whirlwind survey of comics from around the world and throughout history. Special attention is given to what these vibrant narratives reveal about the people and periods that created them.
Comics in World History and Cultures explores the various ways of creating and reading comics from around the world. Bennett engages the audience in an interactive discussion of several sample comics representing ancient Rome, medieval Europe, ancient Maya, feudal and modern Japan, the United States in the early 20th century, and Nazi Germany in World War II.
Marek Bennett is a NH-based cartoonist, musician, and educator. Marek is the recipient of the 2021 New Hampshire Governor’s Arts Award for Art Education.
