Unfazed by chilly temperatures and intermittent rain, more than 120 golfers teed off at Rochester Country Club on May 22 for the Monarch School of New England’s annual Golf Tournament. As the school’s largest fundraiser, the day raised vital funds that empower Monarch students, ages 5 to 22, with significant developmental and physical disabilities to reach their full potential through individualized academics, therapies, and community-based learning.
Eastern Boats returned as the tournament sponsor, with additional support provided by local businesses including: CGI Business Solutions, Yankee Electric & Co., and Albany Engineered Composites, among others. “When our community rallies behind our mission, they make an immediate and lasting difference in our students’ lives,” said Monarch Executive Director Jeannette Souther. “We are deeply grateful for their generosity and partnership.”
Despite the soggy forecast, players enjoyed an 18-hole scramble, putting contests, raffles, and a silent auction. Dozens of volunteers staffed registration, scorekeeping, meal stations, and post-round festivities, ensuring every participant got the most out of the day.
“Watching teams power through the rain with smiles on their faces perfectly reflects our community’s resilience,” added Director of Community Engagement, Amanda Martineau. “Their dedication means specialized equipment, adaptive technology, and innovative programming remain accessible to every student who walks through our doors.”
The day also included a Fund-A-Need that jump-started a brand-new initiative: free, nutritious lunch for every student, regardless of income. The appeal generated early momentum for the effort, which will continue during the statewide giving marathon, NH Gives, June 10-11. Supporters who missed the tournament can still champion the cause by visiting NHGives.org and searching for “Monarch School of New England.”
The school extends heartfelt thanks to its sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and the staff of Rochester Country Club for transforming a gray day into a shining success for students of all abilities.
