Kayak & Canoe Launch returns to Hanson Pines

The Rochester Riverwalk Committee is pleased to announce that the EZ Launch Kayak & Canoe Dock (located in Hanson Pines) has been re-opened for the season.

According to Riverwalk Committee member, Jennifer Marsh, the launch has been a popular site for outdoor recreation since its inception.

“We’re excited to let everyone know that the launch has returned for the summer,” said Marsh. “We hope residents and visitors will be respectful of the nearby neighborhood as they canoe and kayak. It’s a carry in, carry out area.”

On behalf of the Riverwalk Committee, Marsh thanked the Rochester Recreation Department and Public Works for assisting with the installation and breakdown of the launch each year.

First installed in 2020, the launch was funded with individual donations and a grant from the Rochester CDBG program.

The Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Communities Grant Program (CDBG) provides annual grants on a formula basis to entitled cities and counties to develop viable communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income persons.

According to Marsh, the Riverwalk Committee is still exploring other projects to contribute to the Hanson Pines and Riverwalk, which spans from the Pines to downtown, and potentially all the way to the Rochester Fairgrounds.

The EZ Launch Kayak & Canoe Dock is located at the end of Hillsdale Street, off Chestnut Hill Road. There is limited parking available with loading and unloading access. There is also parking available at the James W. Foley Memorial Rochester Community Center.

The Rochester Riverwalk Committee meets every fourth Thursday of the month in the Cocheco Room (City Hall Annex, 2nd floor) from 6-7:30pm. Visit www.rochesternh.net to learn more.
