“Our Children’s Room Summer Reading Kick-Off was one of the best ever! And the recent Wildlife Encounters program was hugely successful! Congratulations to our Children’s Room staff for all their hard work to make this SRP so popular.”

RPL Animated Recommendations
Have you seen the original animated book recommendations created by Main Desk Librarian (and syndicated cartoonist) Stephanie and Main Desk Librarian, Karyl?
We have created a series of weekly animated videos recommending books, DVDs, and other titles available at the Library! New animations feature summer themes. Check them out on our website, Facebook and Instagram accounts!
Author Event
A local author, who writes under the pen name of ‘Martha Levallee’, will discuss her recently published memoir An Only Child No More – Discovering My New Family at 54 at the Rochester Library on July 14th at 2:00 p.m. Copies of the book will be available to purchase. Registration is required. Please call (603)332-1428 ext. 2 or visit the Main Desk to sign up.
Guessing Game
Who doesn’t love saltwater taffy and all the good times and vacation memories that go along with it! Visit the library and you might not need to go on holiday to enjoy that special treat! Patrons can make a guess of how many taffies are in a guessing jar. The first entry pulled that is the correct guess will win the taffies and the jar. Entries will be pulled on the last day of the Summer Reading Program, July 29.
Golden Ticket
We have a special surprise for our Beach Book readers! Hidden inside some of the books is a Golden Ticket that will win the reader a free copy of The Heart of the Deal by Lindsay Macmillan. We are giving away copies of these books to the lucky patrons that happen to check out books with a Golden Ticket. There have been 6 winners so far! You might win one of the five left! And remember, beach reads are enjoyable even without a surprise inside!
Adult Summer Reading Program
Our Adult Summer Reading Program has begun and will end on July 29. Participants must register on the Beanstack website or app. You can read anything and everything. Just remember to log your minutes to receive raffle tickets to win a variety of prizes!
For more details, please visit www.rpl.lib.nh.us and click the tab under Adult to view “Adult Summer Reading”.
Teen Summer Reading Program
Teens can log all their reading minutes and win prizes by registering on Beanstack. Read at least 2 hours per week to win a small prize & one entry toward the end of the program raffle. Earn a *BONUS* raffle ticket for every 2 additional hours of reading. The more you read, the greater your chances of winning. You can also write a book review to earn some candy. Good luck and happy reading!
Children’s Room
Recently, Troop 60244 visited the Rochester Public Library Children’s room. The children used what RPL Librarian, Amy, taught them to participate in a scavenger hunt, sign-up for their own cards, and check out materials as a part of earning their community badge.
Outdoor Play Table is a great place for kids to experiment and play with all the
STEM supplies, loose parts, and household items contained in it. The play cart is in the garden on Tuesdays and Fridays (weather permitting) from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and use the garden, sidewalk, and back lawn for play space. Although the staff cannot be outside at all times, we are available to answer questions.
hoopla
We all love hoopla at the Library. The content it offers is instant, no waiting! You can listen to audiobooks, read ebooks, listen to music or watch movies or TV shows on your phone, computer or laptop, or smart TV. If you don’t already have hoopla, you can find it on our website under services/downloads or go to: https://www.rpl.lib.nh.us/downloads
Special Bonus hoopla downloads for Kids
Kids will be excited to know that by downloading the Hellosaurus iOS or Android app to their mobile device they can play selected content. This incredibly engaging, interactive, and educational app puts kids ages 2 to 8 in their favorite shows. Featuring popular titles like The Wiggles and Love, Diana, children develop life skills independently and safely by having fun. One borrow gets them all the Hellosaurus they want for 7 days.
hoopla Audiobook Recommendation
Main Desk Librarian, Stephanie, LOVES hoopla audiobooks! She shares this recommendation: “I loved The Messy Lives of Book People by Phaedra Patrick and beautifully narrated by Katey Sobey. Book lover and aspiring author, Liv Green, is a wife and mother of two teen sons and tries to help earn extra income by cleaning for a couple of families and a cleaning company. Then a dream comes true: cleaning for her very favorite author, Essie Starling. Ms. Starling is one of the most popular working authors, having created a series of books about a plucky young woman heroine and her adventures. She is also a recluse. Outgoing Liv and Essie begin a tenuous relationship. Download this title instantly to see what happens!”
