The Children’s Room at the Rochester Public Library recently hosted its first Forest Meet-Up, inviting young children and their caregivers to step outside and explore nature together.
Despite a rainy start, 25 attendees joined the walk, where an educator from the Four Winds Nature Institute shared a nature story and led hands-on exploration and play. Four Winds is a non-profit organization advancing the understanding, appreciation, and protection of the environment through community-based natural science education and research.
The event took place on land that is part of a conservation project that began as a collaborative effort between the Rochester Conservation Commission, local landowners, and Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire. The project was made possible in part by a generous donation by local landowners, and funding provided by the City of Rochester and the Drinking Water & Groundwater Trust Fund.
Rochester worked to secure this conservation easement to protect natural resources, as well as to conserve and protect open spaces, including scenic enjoyment for the general public. The easement also includes language reserving the right to sponsor and conduct outdoor educational activities.
The next Forest Meet-Up is set for Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Registration and waivers are required. Mud is expected so wear proper clothing and footwear. Call (603) 335-7549 for general inquiries and additional information.
