Mania, Mayhem, and Monsters are Coming to the Rochester Opera House This Fall

Published on

The mind of comedy legend Mel Brooks returns to the historic Rochester Opera House just in time for Halloween with Young Frankenstein, a knee-slapping musical comedy based on Brooks’ classic 1974 film.

The musical follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein. A respected medical professor in New York, Frederick insists he’s nothing like his mad-scientist grandfather. But when he inherits the family castle in Transylvania, he reluctantly travels there and soon finds himself drawn into the same bizarre experiments.

With the help of his hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, the mysterious housekeeper Frau Blücher, and the flirtatious lab assistant Inga, Frederick decides to reanimate a corpse. Against all odds, the experiment works—and the monster comes to life. Chaos, mistaken identities, and hilarious misunderstandings follow as the villagers panic, Frederick struggles to control his creation, and the monster unexpectedly charms everyone with surprising sensitivity.

The show is packed with over-the-top humor, wordplay, slapstick, and show-stopping numbers like Transylvania Mania and Puttin’ on the Ritz.

This highly anticipated production comes from the same creative team that brought you this summer’s The Producers. With direction by Jenry Towle, choreography by Brad Reinking, and musical direction by Sam Tolley, this wickedly hilarious show is one you won’t want to miss. Young Frankenstein opens Friday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Saturday, November 1. Grab your torches and pitchforks—this will be a monstrously good time!

But that’s not all happening this fall at the Rochester Opera House. The electrifying talent of The Hellion, Sugar Mountain, and Blizzard of Ozzy will also light up the stage this month!

On Friday, September 19, at 8 p.m., The Hellion returns to Rochester. You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’—and it’s THIS SHOW! This Judas Priest tribute band is where nostalgia meets pure metal madness. With Wendy Poor on vocals, Mike Smith and Dave Proper on guitars and vocals, Scott Dentremont on bass and vocals, and Josh Hale on drums and vocals, this thundering, high-voltage performance is one you won’t want to miss. Tickets are on sale now!

Next up is Sugar Mountain on Friday, September 26, at 8 p.m. This group of veteran Jersey musicians pays faithful tribute to one of the world’s most beloved singer-songwriters, Neil Young. Keep it Rockin’ in the Free World with the ultimate Neil Young tribute band, live on stage here in Rochester.

And on Saturday, September 27, it’s two bands—one wild night! Blizzard of Ozzy and Everybody Wants Some are ready to take over Rochester with their crazy train of classic rock energy.

Blizzard of Ozzy delivers the ultimate tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, focusing on his early solo days with music from the Randy Rhoads era, along with later Ozzy hits. Accompanying them is Everybody Wants Some, faithfully honoring the legendary music of Van Halen. Since forming in 2016, the band has been featured on radio and toured across the Northeast. Don’t miss this unforgettable night of rock and roll!
