The New Hampshire Secretary of State has provided information to help voters prepare for a question that will appear on the ballot in the General Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Question 1: Are you in favor of amending Article 78 of the second part of the New Hampshire Constitution to read as follows:
[Art.] 78. [Judges and Sheriffs, When Disqualified by Age.]
No person shall hold the office of sheriff of any county after the person has attained the age of seventy years. No person shall hold the office of judge of any court after the person has attained the age of seventy-five years.
Currently, the mandatory retirement age for judges is set at seventy years. If the amendment is adopted, this age limit will increase to seventy-five years.
For the amendment to take effect, it must be approved by two-thirds of those voting on the measure. Upon approval, the amendment will become effective when the governor proclaims its adoption.
