The Rochester Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of several supervisors resulting from the upcoming retirement of Deputy Chief Jason Thomas, who served the City of Rochester for 32 years.
Captain Andrew Swanberry is being promoted to Deputy Chief, effective August 20th. Captain Swanberry has been with Rochester PD since 2006 and has served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant prior to being a captain.
Lieutenant Jeremy Aucoin is being promoted to Captain, effective August 20th. Lieutenant Aucoin has been with Rochester PD since 2005 with prior law enforcement experience in Bath, Maine. Lieutenant Aucoin has served RPD as a patrol officer, sergeant, and lieutenant in both patrol and support roles. When Lieutenant Aucoin assumes the Captain position, he will be overseeing the Patrol Division.
Sergeant Carl Root is being promoted to Lieutenant, effective August 20th. Sergeant Root has been with Rochester PD since 2019 after retiring from a career with NYPD. Sergeant Root has served RPD as a patrol officer and detective prior to his role as a sergeant.
Sergeant Nicole Knox was promoted effective May 28th, ahead of Deputy Chief Thomas’ retirement due to a temporary vacancy at the sergeant level. Sergeant Knox initially came to Rochester PD as a Communications Specialist, then became a patrol officer, followed by serving as a detective leading up to her promotion to sergeant.
Under the guidance of these individuals, the agency will continue to provide exceptional service to both the residents and visitors of Rochester.
