Public Pools suffer effects of labor shortages, staff committed to providing daily updates online

The Rochester Recreation Department is gearing up to re-open public pools in Rochester, Gonic, and East Rochester. However, hours of operation will vary from week to week (or even day to day) due to ongoing nationwide labor shortages.

Staff is encouraging the public to check the department’s website before going to the pools. They also ask for patience and understanding throughout as they navigate these ongoing staff shortages.

“While the hours are limited compared to previous years, the hours reflect the most optimized schedule based on our staff availability,” said Lauren Krans, Director. “We are doing our best to keep the pools open as much as possible while still maintaining a gold standard of safety for the public and our staff.”

The Recreation Department is still accepting applications for certified lifeguards fifteen years and older. To learn more about the Rochester Recreation Department & Arena, scheduled events and activities, and to know more about pool hours, visit www.rochesterrec.com.
