Rochester Memorial Day Parade to Honor Fallen Heroes, Invites Local Veterans to Participate

The Rochester Veterans Council will host this year’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a cannon shot outside Holy Rosary Church on North Main Street.

Local veterans are encouraged to participate in the event, which honors those who lost their lives in service to the nation. Special accommodations, including golf carts and vintage military vehicles, will be available to assist older or less mobile veterans in joining the procession.

The parade will make its first stop at the Arched Bridge over the Cocheco River for a Wreath Memorial Service to honor those lost at sea, featuring a performance of “Taps” by the Spaulding High School Band and a rifle volley by Revolutionary War re-enactors.

After the ceremony at the bridge, the parade will continue down North Main Street, through downtown Rochester, and along South Main Street, concluding at the Rochester Commons. There, attendees will gather for ceremonies at the Flags of Honor to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s servicemen and women.

Motorists should expect rolling road closures along the parade route and are urged to follow the directions of Rochester Police and parade staff. For more information, contact Carlton Cooper at rochestermemorialdayparade@gmail.com.
