The Rochester Public Library’s Teen Room is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with the Spaulding High School English Department, required summer reading titles are available to borrow all summer long.
“This is the third summer in a row that the library has worked with the English Department at Spaulding to provide required reading titles for students,” said Teen Librarian Amy Lemelin.
Required Reading Titles Include:
- College Composition: Educated by Tara Westover
- 11th Grade Honors: The Magical Language of Others by E.J. Koh or Code Talker by Chester Nez
- 10th Grade Honors: Any biography or memoir
- 9th Grade Options: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, QB1 by Mike Lupica, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, and Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett Krosoczka
The complete list of titles can be found on the Teen Room website: rpl.lib.nh.us/teens
Teens are also welcome to drop by anytime to use the makerspace, play games, complete scavenger hunts, or check out a book or Playaway.
“These teen programs are part of the library’s ongoing efforts to engage teens, foster learning, and provide a welcoming space for studying, socializing, and reading,” said Lemelin. “The Teen Room is always evolving with our teens’ needs in mind.”
Teen Summer Reading Program:
The Teen Summer Reading Program runs from June 16 through August 24. Participants who read for 120 minutes each week will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of 15 prizes.
Thanks to generous donations from Golick’s, Skeletones, Potters, Jetpack Comics, Tri-City Bicycles, The Rochester Opera House, BarnZ’s, and Jersey Mike’s, the library is able to reward young readers and help make reading—and visiting the library—a lifelong habit.
