Rochester Public Library: Weekly Update

We’re excited about our upcoming virtual drawing class. We hope you will be, too!

YOU CAN DRAW THIS!
Reference Librarian, Beth, asks: “Are you feeling creatively exhausted? Trying to find something to shake up your week while you deal with pandemic fatigue? Then this class is for you! The hour-long workshop will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, at 2 p.m., so mark your calendars.

Freelance Illustrator Chelsea Kirchoff presents, You Can Draw This, a 2D drawing-based class focusing on simple techniques combined with an encouraging and relaxing atmosphere to take artistic chances. Anyone is welcomed to join regardless of background/previous drawing experience. It will be a *LIVE* Webex event. This event is free but registration is required. You can register by emailing us at RPLReference@rochesternh.net

The only supplies you’ll need to participate are: a few sheets of printer paper, pencil, something with a straight edge to make straight lines (ruler or cardboard or a book; whatever is around).”

Chelsea Kirchoff is a freelance illustrator and artist who graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit with a BFA in illustration. In addition to freelance and commissions, she also teaches zoom art lessons and is the director of an art camp in the summertime in Michigan. Although she uses a variety of media, pencil and pen have always been her go-to. When she isn’t drawing, she loves trying out different pizza places and looking for statement earrings.

Friends of the Library Book Club
Reference librarian, Beth, shares some more good news: “The Friends of the Library book group has returned to RPL! The group will meet the second Monday of each month at 1 p.m. out on the lawn. It is open to the public and will meet outside monthly until it is possible to bring the group back inside the library. Please bring your own chair or we can provide one for you. The first meeting will be May 10th, and the book under discussion will be Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Books are available for curbside pickup by calling 603-332-1428 ex. 2. If you have any questions, please give us a call or email us at RPLBookGroup@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!”
