Rochester Resident Zoey Cormican to Begin Peace Corps Service in North Macedonia

Published on

Zoey Cormican of Rochester, New Hampshire, has been accepted into the Peace Corps. She will depart for North Macedonia on September 20 to begin training as an English language co-teacher.

Cormican is a graduate of Roger Williams University with bachelor’s degrees in legal studies and political science.

“I have always been driven by a commitment to public service, and I see Peace Corps service as a profound way to represent the values of compassion, collaboration, and equity abroad. I am eager to support local youth in developing their communication skills, while also learning from their unique histories, cultures, and perspectives,” said Cormican. “I am honored to serve not only as an educator, but as a representative of my country’s dedication to global partnership. I look forward to growing through service, while helping to build lasting relationships rooted in trust, respect, and mutual/adaptive learning.”

English language co-teachers improve teaching methodologies, increase student success, strengthen students’ life skills, and encourage greater community involvement in education.

Cormican joins the 31 New Hampshire residents currently serving in the Peace Corps. Since 1961, more than 1,855 New Hampshire residents have served.

Peace Corps volunteers serve in host communities for two years following three months of training. They receive a living stipend, housing, extensive language and technical training, and financial benefits, which may include graduate school fellowships after service.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online. Visit peacecorps.gov to learn more about volunteer opportunities in 60 countries.
