On Saturday, March 12th, the Rochester Recreation Department hosted the SHS vs. Rec All Stars Charity Basketball Game, which is held annually to mark the end of the basketball season and raise money to support a local nonprofit.
The charity aspect of the game brings out a different type of competition, allowing players and fans to have more fun than in a regular season game. “It’s a positive end to the season,” said Paul Cormier, one of the organizers of the event.
This year, funds raised were used to support the SHARE Fund, more commonly known as Jerry’s Food Pantry, a local nonprofit dedicated to clothing and feeding people in need.
Spaulding High School was represented by members of the boys’ varsity and junior varsity players, while the Rec All Stars was made up of select players from the Rec Youth Basketball high school teams.
The Spaulding High School team won the game, however, organizers say “fun was had by all” and they are already looking forward to playing again next year.
