An Important Message from Unitil:

Unitil will be conducting annual gas service line and meter inspections in the City of Rochester starting the week of April 13, 2026, and continuing through the end of October. These annual inspections are critical to the safety of our system and are required by both federal and state regulations.

These inspections involve technicians or contractors walking the length of the service line from the street directly to the gas meter(s) located on the property to check the condition of the equipment and determine whether any maintenance is needed.

Each inspector will be wearing a high-visibility safety vest with the Unitil logo, and their vehicle will display a Unitil magnet. All inspectors will also carry a Unitil-issued badge with their name and photo. Some inspectors may have the word “contractor” on their Unitil ID.

If the meter is located inside, the inspector will need to enter the building to complete the inspection. In these instances, the inspector will attempt to make contact while on site. If contact cannot be made, a door hanger will be left asking the customer to contact Unitil to schedule an appointment.

Customers with questions, or those who would like to verify that the inspector is from Unitil, can contact us at 1-888-301-7700.
