Yo’s Thai Street Food to open in former Comedy Club location, 10/1

The Department of Economic Development for the City of Rochester is pleased to welcome Yo’s Thai Street Food to Union Street, in downtown Rochester.

Diners may remember Yo’s Thai Cuisine, which operated for several years on North Main Street, sold in 2014 to the owners of what is now known as Papaya Thai, just around the corner.

“We wanted to be different and introduce something new for the people of Rochester,” said Yo, owner. “Our restaurant will be ‘street style’, a Thai tradition. It’s faster and there are more selections for people to choose from.”

Street food in Thailand has become a popular cultural draw for people from all around the world. It’s a unique way for vendors to offer a wide selection of foods that are prepared quickly, ready to order, and totally customizable.

“It’s been about 10 years and I miss cooking for people in Rochester,” said Yo. “It feels so good when people recognize me and say they miss my food. I love Rochester and I look forward to being a part of the community again.”

According to Yo, the new restaurant will offer a more casual experience, fast service, eat-in and take-out options, a beer and wine menu, outdoor dining, and plenty of parking. Everything on the menu is made to order and customers have the freedom to mix and match a wide variety of choices.

“Thai food can be spicy,” said Yo. “Everything we do is made to order. Spicy, a little spicy, none at all—It’s up to you!”

Jennifer Marsh, Assistant Director of Economic Development, describes the new restaurant as a welcomed addition to the downtown area.

“The new Yo’s will be taking over the former Curlie’s Comedy Club building,” said Marsh. “It’s the perfect location for a restaurant… The building offers outdoor dining opportunities and plenty of parking on-site and across the street.”

When asked why he would want to open another restaurant in downtown Rochester, Yo described his last experience as memorable and fun.

“I look forward to cooking for the community again,” said Yo. “Working with the City of Rochester has been great so far. The entire process has been smooth and we look forward to opening.”

Yo’s Thai Street Food will hold a soft opening on October 1st. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 11am-8pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-9pm. Closed Sundays. Contact (603) 948-1066 for more information. Visit http://qr.imenupro.com/1are-1 to see the menu.
