Councilor Rachel Lawrence announces resignation, City Council seeks qualified replacement

On Tuesday, June 4, Councilor Rachel Lawrence stated her intent to resign from the Ward 2/Seat B position on City Council due to a change in employment.

In a comment to Foster’s Daily Democrat, Lawrence stated, “I felt it was best to resign and to let the seat be filled by someone who can dedicate the time needed for the role.”

“My last day will be July 2, allowing me to take part in the interviews and voting for my replacement,” said Lawrence. “The idea is that when I step down, there is a person ready to step up.”

With the acceptance of Lawrence’s resignation, City Council will declare the seat vacant and appoint another member of the community to the Ward 2/Seat B position, following an open interview process.

Qualified candidates will be invited to interview during an upcoming City Council meeting. Candidates will have the opportunity to address Rochester residents and members of the Council. Once all candidates have been heard, City Council will vote to appoint a new member, effective immediately.

Any registered voter of Ward 2 interested in serving on the City Council is encouraged to submit a Statement of Interest form, which is available online and in the City Clerk’s Office, by 9:00 am on June 18.

The City Clerk’s Office is located in City Hall, 31 Wakefield Street. For more information, call (603) 332-2130.
