Community Action Partnership of Strafford County (CAPSC) is proud to have hosted another successful round of Harvest Meals, a beloved tradition amongst our Early Care and Education children, teachers and families, leading up to Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 27.
Over the course of three days, we served nearly 500 parents, family members and caregivers who gathered around our tables at three of our Early Care and Education Centers locations in Dover, Farmington and Rochester, to enjoy an abundant feast together.
On Wednesday, November 19, we hosted our first Harvest Meal in Farmington, followed by our second Harvest Meal in Dover on Thursday, November 20. Our third and largest Harvest Meal was hosted in Rochester on Friday, November 21.
At all three Harvest Meals, guests enjoyed a typical Thanksgiving feast served family-style, featuring turkey glazed in a rich gravy, creamy mashed potatoes, a variety of nutritious hearty vegetables, cranberry sauce and an array of warm, flaky biscuits and rolls. Out of all of the delicious options, it seemed that the apple crisp topped with a dollop of whipped cream was unanimously the fan-favorite menu-item, with many guests coming back for second servings of the sweet treat.
“Welcoming our Early Care and Education community to the table to eat such a meaningful meal with us each year is one of my favorite traditions here at CAPSC, said Betsey Andrews Parker, Chief Executive Officer of CAPSC, “I love seeing how our families enjoy Harvest Meals, each year. We’re already counting down the days for next year’s Harvest Meals.”
The cherished annual event is hosted each year by the Early Care and Education and Nutrition teams at each of the three Harvest Meal locations, along with a handful of CAPSC volunteers, who helped set up tables, serve food and tackle the mess of cleaning up afterwards.
As this year’s Harvest Meals wrap up, however, our CAPSC Outreach Office in Dover has continued serving the community, through its Thanksgiving Meal Basket Program. Since Thursday, November 20, our team in Dover has been distributing the baskets, with the intention of giving away 1,000 baskets.
With a few baskets remaining, CAPSC will continue working to distribute the baskets, spreading hope, happiness and health for our families in Strafford County.
