FYI: Winter Weather Advisories and Reminders

Published on

Snow and ice can create difficulties for residents, businesses, and travelers. Keep in mind a few important notes as the Department of Public Works ensures the safety of all our roads, sidewalks, and public grounds.

The purpose of the Snow Removal & Ice Control Policy is to provide timely, efficient, and cost-effective winter maintenance, snow removal, and ice control on municipal roadways for the safety and benefit of residents and motorists.

During a snowstorm or ice event, a city-wide Parking Ban may be issued to facilitate plowing and winter maintenance operations. After a storm, a Downtown Parking Ban may be issued to remove snow from streets and walkways. In both cases, please refer to the Snow Removal Downtown Parking Ban Map.

E-alerts are sent out whenever there is a Snow Removal Parking Ban. Residents are encouraged to sign up for City News & Announcements on the E-alerts subscription page.

The City of Rochester maintains nearly 235 miles of road and 30 miles of sidewalk each winter. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain all the public ways for safe travel.
