Governor Ayotte Highlights Importance of Pet Adoption with Local Rescues, New Hampshire One of Four No-Kill States in the Nation

Published on

Recently, Governor Kelly Ayotte joined Best Friends Animal Society to celebrate New Hampshire’s status as a no-kill state alongside representatives from Mary’s Dogs and Pet Tails Rescue in Northwood. The Governor is also encouraging Granite Staters looking to adopt a pet to visit a local shelter or rescue.

“New Hampshire is proud to be one of only two states in the nation to achieve no-kill status, thanks to the dedicated rescue organizations, shelters, volunteers, and Granite Staters who open their homes to pets in need,” said Governor Ayotte. “I encourage anyone looking to add a new four-legged family member to look no further than our great rescues and shelters. Together, we can continue protecting animals and keep the Granite State the best place for families and pets to live.”

In order to be considered a no-kill shelter, an organization must save at least 90% of all animals that enter its doors. New Hampshire was named a no-kill state in 2021, meaning shelters in the Granite State are committed to saving as many lives as possible and helping more pets find safe, loving homes. The Granite State is one of four states to achieve no-kill status.
