Governor Kelly Ayotte announced recently that she will lead a trade mission in September to strengthen economic ties and expand opportunities for business growth, trade, tourism, and cooperation between Canada and New Hampshire.
The Governor, along with Business and Economic Affairs Commissioner Taylor Caswell, will be in Canada from September 7-11. Further details on the itinerary for the trip will be advised at a later date.
Announcing the trip, Governor Ayotte said, “New Hampshire is the best state in America for economic opportunity, and I want Canadian companies looking to grow to know that we are open for business and will give them the freedom to thrive. Canada is one of our most important trading partners, and I look forward to leading our trade mission this fall to strengthen these ties. Together, we can bring new opportunity and prosperity to both Canada and our state.”
“Business and Economic Affairs is proud to join Governor Ayotte on this strategic trade mission to Canada,” added Commissioner Caswell. “Strengthening relationships with Canadian businesses and tourism associations is critical to expanding opportunities for New Hampshire companies, attracting investment, and fostering long-term economic partnerships that benefit our state’s growth and communities.”
To further facilitate partnerships between Canadian and New Hampshire businesses, the Business and Industry Association (BIA) will join the Governor’s delegation for the trip.
“This trade mission reinforces New Hampshire’s commitment to international partnerships that help grow our economy and support our businesses,” said BIA President Michael Skelton. “Canada is a vital economic partner, and this visit allows us to showcase the innovation and competitiveness of New Hampshire companies while building new avenues for trade and investment.”
Background: New Hampshire’s Economic Relationship with Canada
Canada and New Hampshire have developed a vital and prosperous trade relationship. Canada was New Hampshire’s second largest export market in 2024, with exported goods valued at $1.2 billion in aviation parts and equipment, industrial machinery, and more. Canada was New Hampshire’s largest source of imported goods last year, with imports valued at $1.7 billion, largely in the energy, wood product, and industrial machinery sectors.
The State, through the Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA), continues to implement economic development strategies with Canada to the benefit of New Hampshire’s business community by working to attract foreign direct investment, supporting supply chain needs, and encouraging expansion of businesses across the border in both directions. Additional strategies include engaging agencies and institutions in Canada to develop key partnerships, as well as industry specific relationship building and trade missions.
