Virtual Spaulding Art Show
Art Coordinator, Melissa, says: “The Library is pleased to present the artwork of the students of Spaulding High School during the month of April. Due to current circumstances, this year’s exhibit will be available to view as an online slideshow. This impressive collection of images includes drawings, paintings, digital art, and sculptures created by students during the 2020-2021 school year. When asked to share their thoughts on this year’s exhibit, the Spaulding High School art teachers said, ‘Even remotely, Spaulding students’ artwork shines. They continue to amaze us even with the difficult year they have had. They truly are incredible kids.’ The Spaulding High School online art exhibit can be viewed on the Rochester Public Library website, www.rpl.lib.nh.us and the Rochester Public Library NH YouTube channel.”

Hoopla Recommendation
Main desk librarian, Stephanie, says: “I just listened to an audiobook on hoopla that has become one of my very favorites! The Wildlands by Abi Geni is captivatingly read by Carol Monda, who inhabited the characters so realistically, you felt like they were right there in the room with you, telling you their story! Darlene, Jane and Cora McCloud and their brother Tucker, were the only survivors when a tornado rips through their farm and the surrounding area, taking with it all their beloved animals and their father, who had not made it down the storm cellar where the siblings had taken shelter. In the aftermath, in order to keep her family together, Darlene makes the decision to talk to reporters and sell their story, although Tucker refuses to take any part in the interviews. She uses the money to keep the family together and rents a trailer in a run down trailer park also taking a job at a supermarket to keep them going. Tucker, on the other hand, takes off. Darlene is left to raise her teenage sister and six-year-old Cora on her own.
Three years later, on the anniversary of the tornado, the town is rocked by an explosion at a local cosmetics factory. The lab animals had all been freed beforehand. Nine-year-old Cora is home alone, when a stranger shows up, badly injured. It’s Tucker, the brother she adored and whose departure devastated her. Now an animal rights activist, he’s on the run and he needed her assistance. He then convinces her to leave her sisters behind and join him on an adventure. One that can and will change her life. Forever! This story will keep you listening (or reading) until the very last page. *There’s no waiting for content with hoopla. You can listen to this title (or any) right away!”
