REMINDER: City of Rochester to Repair Multiple Bridges, Detours and Temporary Closures Explained

Published on

The City of Rochester will be repairing several bridges this year, starting with the Bridge Street Bridge over the Cocheco River. Work on this bridge requires a full closure of the to traffic, with an anticipated reopening in October.

During the closure:

  • Thru traffic will be detoured to River Street.
  • Access to driveways between the bridge and North Main Street will be coordinated directly with property owners.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained, with temporary reroutes around construction areas as needed.
  • Repairs to the deck, approach roadway, sidewalk, and other necessary repairs will be completed.

The City has communicated the Bridge Street closure with the Post Office, Waste Management, Rochester School Department, Rochester Housing Authority, Police, Fire, Emergency Management, and affected properties.

Additionally, deck repairs on Spaulding Avenue and Flat Rock Bridge Road (over the Salmon Falls River) are planned for this year. Work on these bridges is expected to begin in August, with the majority of repairs scheduled between mid-September and late October. During the repairs, one-way traffic will be maintained across both bridges.
