Community leaders, local partners, and residents gathered to celebrate the City of Rochester’s official designation as a Fidium “Gig Town,” marking the community’s connection to Fidium’s high-speed fiber network.
The recognition, celebrated during a ceremonial ribbon-cutting with the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, highlights the arrival of reliable, future-ready connectivity. The network brings multi-gig internet speeds to homes and businesses while supporting economic growth, innovation, and quality of life across the region.
“We’ve needed fast, reliable internet in Rochester for a long time, especially to support remote work and attract young families and professionals,” said Mayor Chuck Grassie. “Fidium’s fiber network finally delivers the speed and reliability our community has been asking for, and it’s exciting to be recognized as a Gig Town. This is an important step in making Rochester an even stronger, more connected place to live and work.”
Fidium completed its initial fiber network launch to more than 18,500 homes and businesses in Rochester earlier this year and is now introducing new 5 Gig and up to 8 Gig symmetrical internet speed tiers alongside next-generation WiFi 7 technology. Through this expansion, Fidium is helping ensure that Rochester is equipped to compete and thrive in today’s digital economy, enabling remote work, education, telehealth, small business growth, and more.

“Communities like Rochester are thinking about the future, and reliable, high-speed connectivity is a big part of that,” said Jeff McIver, senior manager of Government Affairs for Fidium. “We’re proud to bring fiber to the city and support its efforts to attract new residents, strengthen local businesses and create new opportunities for growth.”
Fidium’s fiber network delivers:
- Multi-gig speeds with symmetrical upload and download capability
- Enhanced reliability compared to legacy infrastructure
- Capacity to support growing digital demands for years to come
The Gig Town designation reflects Fidium’s continued investment in expanding fiber infrastructure across New Hampshire, with fiber access now available to more than 400,000 homes and businesses throughout the state.
