Before generic multiplexes became the norm, you could always spot a movie theater, even if it was your first time in town. A large illuminated sign announced the cinema’s name, and the marquee below listed the film that was playing. Even if the movie itself was a flop, the glowing sign out front often lured you inside.
At first glance, the old brick building on North Main Street in downtown Rochester may not seem worth noticing. Yet years ago, it was one of the most fashionable spots in town. During the golden age of Hollywood, it was the place to be to watch movies on the big screen. The Scenic Theater is long gone, but it is worth remembering.
