After introducing our new Behind the Badge series, we’ve seen your comments and questions asking when the first spotlight was coming. Well, it’s finally here.
And who better to kick things off than Rochester Police Chief Boudreau?
Behind the Badge is an opportunity for our community to get to know the people behind the uniforms a little better: what brought them into law enforcement, what keeps them motivated, and even a few things you might never guess about them.
For our very first installment, we sat down with Chief Boudreau and asked him three questions:
1. What inspired you to become a police officer?
My father talking to me about this profession being a good, solid career as he had a close friend who was a police officer. Through my high school years, I had the opportunity to interact with some Rochester Officers who used to come to the football off-season weightroom to work out with us. These connections really got me interested in this as a career.
2. What is your favorite part about serving the community?
Having the opportunity to influence and give back to the community who helped to shape me as a young man. Making Rochester better for the next generation, for my own children as they become adults.
3. What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
Overall, I am not a very interesting person. But when I step away from the uniform, I enjoy working out, working with my hands to build things.

What is the most memorable stop to date that they’ve had?
4. Most memorable stop to date:
Was not actually my traffic stop. When I was a Lt on an early Sunday morning shift, I gave the shift directions to everyone to be focusing on traffic enforcement. One of the new officers who was still in field training made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The officer in training made contact with the driver and passenger while the field training officer watched closely. Both officers went back to the cruiser, and when the trainee began running the routine checks on the driver, the training officer asked him if he knew who he had pulled over, to which the trainee stated he didn’t. It was at that point the training officer, who recognized the occupants of the vehicle, told his trainee the driver was the Lt’s father………
That’s our first look behind the badge, but there’s plenty more to come.
