City Officials tour new SIG SAUER facility on Milton Road

On Friday, July 22nd, City officials had the opportunity to tour the new SIG SAUER manufacturing facility, located in the former Stonewall Kitchen and Cabletron building, on Milton Road.

According to their website, SIG SAUER is a world-renowned company that manufactures firearms that are the weapons of choice for many of the premier global military, law enforcement, and commercial users.

The facility on Milton Road manufactures weapons primarily for military contracts and does not include a retail component. According to Michael Scala, Director of Economic Development for the City of Rochester, the company has already invested approximately $21.5 million into the property, millions in state-of-the-art machinery and technology, and has plans to expand operations in the future.

During the tour, SIG executives enthusiastically showcased safe and clean working conditions featuring innovative and proprietary machinery and processes. They also highlighted their efforts to provide jobs with decent living wages, full benefits, educational training opportunities, and the potential for advancement.

Mayor Paul Callaghan praised the company’s efforts to create high-tech, well-paying manufacturing jobs in Rochester.

“SIG SAUER is a great place to work,” said Callaghan. “In many cases, kids graduating high school are able to get into SIG, get the training they need, and make a good wage without incurring any debt. They even offer to pay for secondary educational opportunities so our young people can further their education, make more money, and plan for their futures.”

The company plans to hold a formal ribbon-cutting in the next several months. An official date has not yet been determined. To learn more about SIG SAUER, visit www.sigsauer.com.
