Free Comic Book Day returns on Saturday, 5/6 in Downtown Rochester

The biggest Free Comic Book Day Festival is back and bigger than ever! On Saturday, May 6th from 10 am to 4 pm (and later), Jetpack Comics & Games will be hosting a day-long, city-wide event that celebrates the culture of comic books and graphic storytelling.

Thanks to a partnership between Rochester Main Street, the City of Rochester, and additional sponsors, the Rochester Free Comic Book Day has become a must-attend event for comic book lovers and pop culture enthusiasts of all ages. The festival promises a fun, family-friendly day that is entirely free to attend.

The festival kicks off with a comic book scavenger hunt with free comic books for kids, teens, and adults. Dozens of guests, comic creators, vendors, and more will participate in the event. Attendees have the opportunity to meet comic book creators, check out the offerings of vendors at the Event Hall in the ballroom at The Governor’s Inn, and participate in a costume contest at 4 pm. Special guests include TMNT Classic Creator, Eric Talbot, and many more.

In addition to the main events, various establishments will offer Comic Day specials in the week leading up to the event. Moreover, a few weeks before the event, attendees can download the Comic Book scavenger hunt map from the Jetpack Comics website.

The Comic Book Scavenger Hunt takes place all over downtown Rochester. It is a walking scavenger hunt that highlights the beauty and diversity of Rochester’s historic downtown while exposing people to the new and old businesses that Rochester’s downtown has to offer. Each year there are approximately 3 dozen stops on the map, where a family or group can get a free comic book. The scavenger hunt map will have all these details. At each stop, you have the establishment initial your map so you can enter to win a Comic Book gift basket.

At Jetpack Comics, attendees can choose more than one comic with additional chances to pick up more or make a purchase of some at cost. In addition, there may be remote locations that attendees can drive to after the event to grab even more free comic books. At each stop, the establishment initials your map so you can enter to win a Comic Book gift basket. Only completed maps are eligible to win.

The festival culminates with the after-party featuring live music and an opportunity to mingle with creators, guests, and fans.
