Governor Kelly Ayotte and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) celebrate the important role that home visiting programs can play for families. Across New Hampshire, home visiting programs help parents meet the unique needs of their families, promote healthy child development, and connect them with valuable community resources, all in the comfort of their own home. New Hampshire celebrated Home Visiting Week April 20-24.
“I am proud to highlight Home Visiting Programs here in New Hampshire,” said Governor Kelly Ayotte. “New Hampshire is home to incredible family support professionals whose goal is to give families in the Granite State the utmost care and attention to give them a healthy start and a bright future. It is programs like these that make our great state stand out.”
“The early childhood years are a critical time for brain development in children,” said DHHS Commissioner Lori Weaver. “There are home visiting programs across the state that contribute to the health and well-being of New Hampshire families. We take great pride in these services, and we are proud to support them.”
Home Visiting Programs feature trained family support professionals who provide personalized, in-home education and guidance to help strengthen maternal and child health, parent-child relationships, and early childhood development. These programs can connect families to resources and services such as food and nutrition programs and housing and employment support. Families benefit from early screening and referrals to critical early intervention services when developmental or health concerns are identified.
Home Visiting Programs are voluntary. Trained family support professionals provide families with information on:
- Feeding, crying, child development, and bonding
- Programs that prevent and address chronic childhood conditions
- How to identify health needs early
- Healthcare providers and services available in the community
- Connections to WIC, pediatricians and health insurance
