The Department of Public Works is announcing that intersection improvements for the Summer Street / Columbus Avenue intersection are anticipated to start this fall and conclude in late summer 2027.

This intersection was identified in the 2020 Transportation Master Plan as requiring safety and capacity improvements.

Improvements include new left-turn lanes on Columbus Avenue, improved circulation for large vehicles, appropriate pedestrian facilities, and enhanced stormwater treatment. The project will also include some upgrades to drinking water infrastructure.

Full traffic operations are anticipated during the construction duration, so motorists should anticipate some impacts to travel. Consider planning alternative routes when possible.
