The Department of Public Works is announcing that the closure of the Portland Street Bridge over Willow (Wardley Brook) at Chamberlain Street is now expected to begin on Monday, August 10, with the bridge reopening by Wednesday, November 11, 2026.

The closure is necessary to complete repairs to the concrete structure, reconstruct the sidewalk, and replace the guardrail.

During the closure, vehicle traffic will be detoured via Franklin Street, while pedestrian access will be maintained. No other projects are expected to affect vehicle traffic along the detour route during this time.

Please note that Chamberlain Street at its intersection with Portland Street will also be closed to through traffic during this period to allow for the rerouting of the pedestrian crosswalk and the resetting of drainage infrastructure.
