Located in Washington, D.C., are many monuments and statues dedicated to historical figures and events. Some of these include the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Andrew Jackson statue.

There is another memorial in Washington that stands out from the others due to its simple design and reflective black granite surface, which acts as a mirror to the names etched into it. The memorial does not glorify war and instead emphasizes memory and healing for those who served. It is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, one of the most visited memorials in Washington, D.C.

Among the many names on this monument are three Rochester men who are enshrined on it: Staff Sergeant George Cahill, Master Sergeant Samuel Theriault, and Specialist John Walker.
