Rochester Prepares to Celebrate National Thank a Police Officer Day on September 20

The volunteer-run Thank a Rochester Cop committee is once again preparing to celebrate National Thank a Police Officer Day on Friday, September 20, 2025. This annual effort invites residents, businesses, and organizations to show appreciation for the Rochester Police Department and the work officers do to keep the community safe.

The committee’s mission is simple: to demonstrate gratitude for the dedication, professionalism, and service of Rochester’s law enforcement officers.

Community members are encouraged to “paint the city blue” by decorating their homes, businesses, and workplaces. Free decorations—including blue bows, lights, and yard signs—are available at three decoration stations during regular business hours:

  • Granite Steak & Grill
  • Holy Rosary Credit Union
  • Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce

Supplies are provided at no cost thanks to the generosity of local sponsors, though donations are gratefully accepted.

Residents can also show their appreciation by writing personal notes to officers. Thank-you card stations will be available in the weeks leading up to September 20 at the following locations:

  • Granite Steak & Grill
  • Holy Rosary Credit Union
  • Market Basket (The Ridge)
  • Potter’s House Bakery
  • Rochester Public Library

Cards will be collected and delivered, along with gift bags, to officers on National Thank a Police Officer Day.

The committee is seeking additional sponsors and donations from local businesses to help support its efforts and provide raffle prizes for officers. Businesses or individuals interested in participating can visit www.thankarc.com or connect on Facebook at facebook.com/ThankARochesterCop.

This year’s celebration is made possible through the generous support of underwriter Profile Bank, which continues its tradition of honoring the Rochester Police Department.
