Rochester Main Street is pleased to announce that Smitten Yarn Co., located at 86 Wakefield Street, is included in the Great Northern Yarn Haul, running from July 8th to July 31st.
The Yarn Haul is a self-guided tour for knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, and fiber artists of all kinds. The tour encourages fiber artists to travel the region to visit dozens of shops to complete a score card. Participants with more than eight signatures on their scorecard are eligible for prizes.
According to Dawn McGill, owner of Smitten Yarn Co., the Great Northern Yarn Haul is a fun activity that highlights several independent yarn businesses throughout the region. McGill says her shop has welcomed many people to Rochester for the first time, all due to the Yarn Haul.
“There’s much to see and do here in Rochester,” said McGill. “We always enjoy sharing places and things for our customers to enjoy while they’re in town. We receive a lot of positive feedback from customers that are enjoying our lovely city for the first time.”
Since opening in 2020, McGill says that her shop has become a destination that attracts people from all over the region. Not only are customers enjoying her diverse product line, but also the history and beauty of her Victorian home and knitting porch.
“We’re excited to be a part of The Great Northern Yarn Crawl,” said McGill. “It’s another opportunity to welcome people to Rochester so they can see what makes it such a great place to visit, live and work.”
According to McGill, her staff regularly suggests places to eat and shop downtown while they are participating in the Yarn Haul.
“Downtown Rochester offers a great variety of retail shops, restaurants, antiques, museums, history, and so much more to extend their visit,” said McGill.
