Spaulding Art Students celebrated during NH Scholastic Art Awards ceremony

The Art Department, at Spaulding High School, is pleased to announce that several students have been selected to represent the district in the 2023 New Hampshire Regional/State Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Since 1923, the organization has inspired bold ideas in young artists throughout the country. Notable alumni include Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Robert Indiana, and Richard Avedon.

Art teachers from all over the United States submit student artwork to regional/state competitions. After regionals, top winners are entered into a national round, ending with a recognition ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York.

According to longtime Spaulding art teacher Jen Daly, New Hampshire winners were celebrated during a ceremony on Sunday, February 5th, 2023 at Pinkerton Academy’s Stockbridge Theater in Derry, NH. Spaulding student Yasmin Nguyen received a Gold Key, sending her to nationals.

“We want to congratulate Yasmin Nguyen for receiving a Gold Key award in the mixed media category,” said Daly. “Her metal embossed artwork will be one of the few selections representing New Hampshire in the National Scholastic Art Awards and competing nationally this March. We are thrilled to have so many students recognized during the event.”

The following Spaulding High School students received Gold, Silver, and Honorable Mention Awards certificates and pins at the awards ceremony:

  • Gold Key Winners: Yasmin Nguyen.
  • Silver Key Winners: Kayden Lawrence, Madox Malaquias, Juliana Oliva, Natalie Meulenbroek (2 awards), and Grace Turgeon.
