Last November, Republican David Walker defeated Democrat Chuck Grassie by 1 vote for the State Representative – District 8 seat. However, a recount determined the vote was tied 970-970.

In December, City Council approved a special election to be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. The polls will be open from 8am to 7pm at McClelland Elementary School.
