City Manager Blaine Cox is pleased to introduce two new monthly programs designed to bring the community together, Community Coffee and City Chat.
The two programs encourage the public to come together to introduce themselves, describe their ideas and projects, ask questions, and get to know one another.
“We’re excited to welcome people into the Community Center,” said Cox. “A lot of valuable input and collaboration can develop from informal conversations. I invite anyone looking to be more connected to attend.”
Community Coffee is a 1hr event held every first Thursday at 9:30am in the Community Room, on the 1st floor of the Community Center. The purpose of the event is to encourage businesses, organizations, and volunteer groups to come together, introduce themselves, and share updates regarding various efforts occurring around the city. Free coffee is available, courtesy of the Rochester Recreation Department.
Lauren Krans, Rochester Recreation Department Assistant Director, describes Community Coffee as “a great opportunity for local organizations to network, resource share, and collaborate.
“It’s a simple but effective way to cultivate local connections,” said Krans “There’s nothing better than getting to know each other over a good cup of coffee!”
Another program that invites citizens to meet is City Chat, an additional effort to encourage community engagement.
According to the city’s website, City Chat is a chance for residents, business owners, and volunteer groups to meet informally and chat with the Public Information & Community Engagement Manager for the City of Rochester. Meetings take place in Suite 135 of the Community Center (Rochester Museum of Fine Arts) every first Thursday from 10:45-12pm. The public is encouraged to attend. No RSVP is required.
Matt Wyatt, the city’s Public Information Manager, states that City Chat is “a chance for residents and business owners to share information, ask questions, and learn more about city progress and happenings.”
“We’re hoping these two recurring events will inspire more meaningful engagement between staff, residents, and business owners,” said Wyatt. “I hope the community will take advantage of these opportunities each month.”
