On July 14, 2026, Governor Kelly Ayotte released the following statement after New Hampshire was named the Best State to Move To in 2026 by ConsumerAffairs, moving ahead of Utah to claim the top spot. The annual ranking evaluated all 50 states based on affordability, economic opportunity, safety, education, health care, and quality of life.

“New Hampshire is the best place to live, work, and raise a family, and I’m proud to see us named the #1 state to move to in 2026,” said Governor Ayotte. “We’re a beacon for economic opportunity, the safest state in the nation, and our quality of life is unlike anywhere else. Anyone looking for lower taxes, more opportunity, and an unmatched quality of life should look no further than the Granite State — we’d love to have you!”

ConsumerAffairs ranked New Hampshire first overall, citing the state’s strong economy, public safety, quality of life, and overall desirability for those looking to relocate. The Granite State improved from its #2 ranking in each of the previous two years.
