New ownership at recently refreshed Cabana Salon

Published on

The City of Rochester’s Economic Development Department is pleased to welcome Tara Fitzgerald Norton to downtown as the new owner of Cabana Salon.  Tara, a veteran, purchased the salon last spring from Sue Ploof, whose husband is also a veteran.  Tara has refreshed the salon, creating a calm and comfortable space for clients.  Her goal is for people to feel welcome and enjoy the time they spend at Cabana so they return again and again.

Currently, Cabana offers hair styling, tanning and esthetician services and includes 2 stylists and an esthetician.  Tara says her goal is to be “bursting at the seams” and her five-year plan includes expansion to additional locations in Strafford County.  When recruiting additional stylists and technicians, Tara is careful to ensure that she contracts with people who will represent her business well, and who she believes will be good team members.  “As we’re rebranding Cabana in town, it’s super important, as Rochester is on this upward swing, to make sure the right people are in place representing this demographic downtown as a whole,” said Tara.  She works hard to make sure she markets the entire team and really wants the people on her team to do well which will help maintain the continuity of her team and their services.

While Tara has maintained many of the clients who have been coming to Cabana for many years, she also has welcomed many new clients as well.  She offers a discount to military personnel, veterans, health care workers and first responders.   When asked what her favorite thing was about being in downtown Rochester, Tara said, “I like the energy and the potential energy that’s up and coming.  There’s a rumbling that’s about to erupt here and it’s very exciting to be in the mix of that.”  Tara resides in Rochester and is committed to volunteerism and investing in the community.  She volunteered with the United Way, the Rochester Fellowship Kitchen, and organized a neighborhood cleanup.

Assistant Director of Economic Development Jennifer Marsh said, “We are happy that Tara has taken over Cabana and is continuing the services that have been offered there. Tara’s passion and energy are a great addition to downtown Rochester.”
