Rochester gallery exhibit to explore transgender leaders of New Hampshire

The Seacoast LGBT History Project is gearing up for its fifth annual show at RiverStones Custom Framing and The Franklin Gallery this August.

This year’s exhibit, titled “Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Leaders of New Hampshire” will focus on transgender leaders and influencers across New Hampshire in the fields of Arts & Culture, Health, Politics, Commerce, Social, and Spirituality.

“This is the fifth year we are exhibiting in Rochester,” said Tom Kaufhold, founder of the Seacoast LGBT History project. “We are excited to uplift the experiences of New Hampshire’s transgender leaders, past and present.”

The exhibit was curated by trans advocate and Rochester city councilor Palana Hunt-Hawkins.

Palana commented: “At a time when many people are still learning what it means to be trans, and many trans folks still struggling to find community and acceptance, to show the vibrancy and diversity of this community – especially locally – is a truly powerful experience.”

“I am excited to offer my gallery space to display the artifacts from this very important project,” said Kris Ebbeson, proprietor of RiverStones Custom Framing and Franklin Gallery.

The opening reception for ‘TGNC Leaders of New Hampshire’ is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 5 at The Franklin Gallery, located at RiverStones Custom Framing, 33 North Main St, Rochester. The public is invited. The exhibit will be up from Wednesday, August 4 through Saturday, August 28 and is free to view.

The Rochester Public Library’s Carnegie Room will also host a pop-up show from Seacoast LGBT History Project detailing the past hundred years of Seacoast LGBTQ history throughout the month of August.

RiverStones Custom Framing and the Franklin Gallery are open Wednesday through Friday 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit the Seacoast NH LGBT Facebook page or call RiverStones at (603) 812-1488.
