Fire Department partners with Red Cross for ‘Sound The Alarm’ event on 4/15

The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) is partnering with the American Red Cross for ‘Sound The Alarm’, an event to assist homeowners that wish to have their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms evaluated, upgraded, and brought up to code throughout their homes.

In an effort to better protect elderly and child populations, target areas will be mobile home parks and other high-risk, densely populated neighborhoods surrounding elementary schools. However, the event is open to anyone looking to have an evaluation and installation scheduled.

According to Deputy Chief of Prevention Adam Hughes, the Red Cross and RFD have been partnering for years to ensure the safety of Rochester residents. Hughes says that most home incidents can be prevented by having operational smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

“Our prevention team works directly with the Red Cross frequently and has strengthened this relationship through various programs and interactions,” said Hughes. “This event was originally planned for April 2020 but the pandemic forced us to postpone.”
