Public Health Officials warn residents about the risk of rabies exposure

Public Health officials are reminding residents to be aware of the risk of rabies exposure, a fatal disease transmitted through bites from infected mammals.

While human rabies deaths in the United States are rare, preventative treatment is highly successful and has significantly reduced the death rate.

Report any interactions with potentially rabid animals, especially bites, to local health departments for assessment and possible preventative treatment. Seek medical attention for bite wounds.
