The Department of Public Works is announcing upcoming sewer utility improvements on Portland Street.
SUR Construction, Inc. has been retained to remove an existing 6-inch gravity sewer main and install an 8-inch PVC sewer upgrade between McKinley Street and Morton Avenue. The project also includes the installation of new sewer manholes and the re-establishment of existing sewer services for homes and businesses.
Work is scheduled to begin in mid-October 2026, with sewer utility line work expected to be completed in early December 2026. Final paving of Portland Street is scheduled for spring 2027.
Portland Street is currently closed at Prospect Street due to an ongoing culvert rehabilitation project. All northbound traffic on Portland Street will be diverted to Prospect Street and Franklin Street. Parking along Portland Street on the northbound side between School Street and Prospect Street will not be permitted to facilitate through traffic.
Local traffic for residents living within the work zone will be accommodated to provide access to their properties.
