City of Rochester Sees High Demand for New Trash Bag Program During Holiday Season

The City of Rochester’s new residential overflow trash bag program has seen an overwhelming response, with demand exceeding expectations during the holiday season.

The City’s vendor is actively working with local Market Basket and Hannaford stores to restock supplies and meet the increased demand.

The overflow trash bag program requires the use of special trash bags for overflow waste that exceeds the capacity of Waste Management-issued residential toters. These bags, sold in packets of five for $1.75 per bag, were introduced as an alternative to the City’s previous trash sticker program.

The program only applies to overflow trash. Regular waste that fits within the residential toters does not require a special bag. The program does not affect bulky items or regular residential solid waste.

Check with Market Basket and Hannaford stores for updates on restock availability.
